How to FTP Files
to Repro Graphics
Besides
submitting your files on a thumb drive, ZIP 100mg disks or CD you might find
the need to submit your files electronically to us. We recommend that
you use File Transfer Protocol (FTP) when your files will not fit on the
before mentioned media. Emailing your files is not advisable.
Instructions
for FTPing files:
The
FTP program for the Macintosh is Fetch. If you do not have Fetch, you
can download it from the Software
Website by searching for Fetch. You will want to download the file
fetch-3.0.3-installer.hqx . The file will require a decompression program
such as Stuffit to open it, a program you can also download from the Software
site.
Step-by-Step
FTP Using Fetch
Once
you have installed the FTP software, double click on your Fetch software
to open it. You will get a window with four entry fields
- In
the field that asks for Host enter: reproftp.ucdavis.edu
User ID Field: anonymouse
Leave Password:1!2@
- Leave
Directory blank.
If you have entered the information correctly, you will see the reproftp
directory on your screen.
- Under
Directories in the menu bar, click create new directory,
and when prompted to name your directory enter your first initial
and last name. Click OK.
Your directory will remain on our server and subsequent ftp submissions
will not require you to repeat this step.
- Double
click on the new folder that has your name to open your directory. And
once again create another directory/folder for the job you are sending.
Name it something that is similar to what the job is i.e. invitation
pkg, open house, dept brochure, etc. Double click on this folder to
proceed.
- Click
PUT and locate the folder (on your hard drive} that
you want to send to us. You will have to upload each file in the job
folder separately. Choose the first file you want to send, select BINHEX
for format and click OK. You will repeat this step until all files,
images, and fonts are uploaded.
- When
submitting your Repro Graphics Work Request Form, be sure to indicate
that file has been FTPed to us and identify the name
of your directory and the job folder. Each job should have its own folder
within your directory.
If
you do not already have any ftp client software, we recommend using the
shareware FTP program known as AbsoluteFTP, available on the Software
Website by searching for AbsoluteFTP.
Step-by-step Using Absolute FTP
Now,
launch the software you have installed.
Connecting to our ftp site:
- Choose
'Connect' from the File menu to bring up the "Connect"
window.
- Click
the 'New Session' toolbar button.
- Enter
the FTP server's address: reproftp.ucdavis.edu
- Click
the 'Next' button.
-
Check the 'Anonymous login' checkbox.
- Password:
1!2@
- Click
the 'Next' button to bypass the initial directory page.
- Click
the 'Finish' button to accept the default session name.
- Select
the new entry just created. Note that this entry is saved in the AbsoluteFTP
database and can be reused by bringing up the "Connect" window
(see step 1).
- Click
the 'Connect' button.
Uploading
your files:
- On
the right half of the window are the files on the remote system (reproftp.ucdavis.edu).
Right click in that area and select MkDir. Name it as your
first initial followed by your last name (ex. Bob Smith would
name it b_smith, or with your department name). Click OK. Your directory
will remain on our server and subsequent ftp submissions will not require
you to repeat this step.
- Double
click on your new folder. Once inside, create another folder using the
same process, and name it according to the job you are submitting. If
you are submitting more than one job, please create a separate folder
for each project.
- Now
locate the file(s) you wish to upload into that directory on your local
system, using either the left half of the Winsock FTP Pro window, or
by navigating to their location through windows. Select the files and
drag them into the Remote Site section of Winsock FTP Pro. Please include
all needed files, fonts, and images. Fonts should be uploaded into a
FONTS folder and images should be placed in a folder you have called
IMAGES. When the upload has completed, click exit.
- When
submitting your Repro Graphics Work Request Form, be sure to indicate
that file has been FTPd to us and please identify the name of
your directory and the job folder(s).
