Pre-Flight Checklist

To facilitate the pre-press production of your files we have developed this checklist to help avoid production delays, expense and headaches when it comes to processing your documents. Instead of packaging your file and taking two aspirins, follow these simple steps!

Including this checklist with your job will help expedite the process.


Hard Copy Supplied

_____• Page proofs included
_____• Color separation proofs included (jobs created in spot or cmyk only)
_____• Dummy supplied, folds are indicated
_____• Sample (if available from a previous printing)


Hard Copy Analysis

_____• All graphic elements are evident and separate correctly
_____ • All fonts print and separate correctly
_____ • Crop marks included
_____ • Note size of laser output provided, if other than 100%
_____ • File bleeds, check that .0625 (1/8 inch) bleed appears on the laser proofs supplied

Electronic Copy Supplied

_____• Electronic copy of file (please see next section for file format)
_____• Fonts: From the Macintosh platform, include both the screen font and the printer font. From the PC platform, include the .pfm and .pfb components of each font. (Tip: convert the fonts to outlines in your graphics file before importing the graphic into the page layout program.)
_____• Used Type 1 or PostScript Fonts and did not apply styles. Use the actual stylized typeface if it is available; do not use style attributes such as bold, italic, bold italic, outline, shadow, and all caps (use caps lock for all caps).
_____• Document saved at 233 dpi: When an image appears at 100 percent size in the page layout file should be at 233 dpi for maximum resolution when printing.
_____•Files are well-organized: work is organized in a folder that holds the document(s):
        _____• folder labelled “FONTS” which includes all the fonts used in your document
        _____• folder labelled “IMAGES” that holds all of the .eps and .tif images that were imported.

NOTE: When creating a graphic in a vector-based program (such as Adobe Illustrator) do not import or place another .eps file within your file. Many times the place/imported graphic will generate the dreaded postscript error message, and your file will not print.
